What’s wrong with this picture?

I’m somewhat confused by what I see with the national debt clock which you can see in the blog’s sidebar and in this post below. The country is burning cash at about $1,000,000 per minute, (that would be one million dollars). Is this the most insane thing you have ever heard of? If you aren’t shaking your head you better pinch yourself to make sure your not sleeping.

National Debt Clock

Is anyone paying attention to our national debt?

The national debt is growing so fast at about $5,000,000,000, (yes that’s five billion dollars), plus each day. To put this in perspective the cost of the Iraq war was 4-8 billion dollars each month, (I’m not sure what we are currently spending to maintain the troops in Iraq and Afganistan). We are burning through this kind of cash in a day right now and the question is: What are we getting for this? I would venture to say nothing. The interest on a debt this large is enormous.

What can you and I do?

  1. Be aware of the problem and know it exists and belongs to us and the future generations of this country.
  2. Write your congressional representatives. For more information on contacting congress: Contact Congress Now.
  3. Write the president.
  4. Inform people in your social circle about the situation and ask them to get involved with the steps above.
  5. Research the situation to understand where our money is going and how it is being spent by our representational government in Washington. Share your findings here and on other websites, at town hall meetings, and Tea Parties.
  6. Let your politicians know how you feel through organizing and managing your vote to make a change in your local representation; make sure your representative understands the need to curb spending and create a soft landing.

Do we know where our cash is going? We need to wake up and shake the system to and insure big spending programs like HR3692 are not passed into law or funded until we have slowed or reversed our national debt.

The fact is our economy did not grow this quarter nor did we create jobs. Stay tuned as we continue to dig into the dilemma we face as a country. Please share your findings here as we research a spending exit strategy.
